Cristian Desmarchelier is a biologist and also holds a Doctorate from the School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Buenos Aires (Argentina).He has held different positions in the private and public sectors working in research, development, marketing and investment strategies for biodiversity-derived products and other related topics in the field of bioeconomy, including Programme Coordinator at the Ministry of Science and Technology of Argentina (MINCYT), Project Manager at Fundación Mundo Sano (Grupo INSUD), Technical Assistant at the Argentine Association of Phytomedicine. Cristian also performed several short-term consultancies for pharmaceutical companies from Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Canada, UK, Switzerland, Peru, and for PAHO (Pan-American Health Organisation). Also consulted for PRODAPP-EU (Peru), mostly involved in management of R&D activities in collaboration with Yanesha native communities in the Central Peruvian Amazon.

In addition, he has co-authored over 30 research papers and/or book chapters on pharmacology of natural products and medicinal plants in international journals, published the book "Plantas Medicinales Autóctonas de la Argentina", and during 2015-16 also hosted the TV documentary series "Paradigma Tres - Los Caminos de la Bioeconomía".
